| The Cook's Friend and Home Guide
Compiled and published by the Ladies Aid Society of
the M.E. Church of Jollytown in 1906 and now reproduced with the
intention of providing a glimpse into the past, as well as a useful
cookbook. It is 126 pages of recipes and folk ways: cleaning,
gardening, chicken tending, bug-killing tips, and philosophical
musing. The names on the recipes are a litany of Greene County
people that you will recognize: Berdine, Clovis, Cole, Fordyce, Dye,
Hennen, Phillips, Russell, Shriver, and Wise are just a few.
Mrs. J.C. Clovis, alone, has 28 recipes and guides. |
