Tax Book-CD-ROM’S

Greene County's surviving tax records go back to just a few years after the formation of the county from Washington County in 1796. The tax books list all of the adult male inhabitants and female landholders of each township and are helpful in determining when a family lived in the township. Most of the early record books are in rather poor condition and are stored in the basement of a county building. Although they are accessible to researchers requesting to use them, the room in which they are stored is not convenient for research purposes and no copy facilities are available at the storage site.

These Greene County Tax Book CD-ROM's make the records easily accessible to the researcher and contain digital images of the surviving earliest tax book for each of the townships in the county (except the newest townships, Gray and Freeport). They are stored in Adobe Acrobat files for easy viewing and printing, and a copy of Adobe's Acrobat Reader is included on the CD for those who do not already have it installed on their computer. The CD's can be viewed on any Windows 98/ME/XP computer using a web browser and Acrobat Reader.

The CD-ROM's are available from the Cornerstone Genealogical Society at a cost of $10.00 each plus shipping and Pennsylvania sales tax where applicable. All proceeds from the sales of the CD-ROM's go to support the activities of the Genealogical Society.
